ABOUT MOHAMMAD T. RAHMAN
Rahman has lived in the Jamaica section of Queens for more than 30 years. A native of Bangladesh, Rahman was awarded his Masters Degree in Psychology from university in Bangladesh, and continued his graduate studies at Hunter College School of Social Work. Rahman spent 20 years at HRA/New York City Department of Social Services, where he helped thousands of welfare recipients become self sufficient.
Recognized in the community for his skill at solving problems and navigating the complexities of city agencies, Rahman has made immigration issues and public safety among his highest priorities. He has worked closely with his local precinct community council, precinct commander, and community affairs officers to help address the concerns of Jamaica’s diverse communities. Additionally, he’s helped push local elected officials and government agencies to reduce crime in the area.
“Meeting the needs of new immigrants and of seniors is more important now than ever,” Rahman said. “The number of immigrants who are seniors has increased dramatically, yet the City’s funding for the Department of the Aging is at the same level it was in 2008. We need to put pressure on our elected officials to make certain all of the residents of Council District 24 receive their fair share of city funding.”
Rahman is happily married to his wife Sadia Rahman and has two sons, both of whom graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY.
